We owe a lot to game shows in this house. Actually, we owe the house to a game show and the Husband’s knowledge of trivia.
Despite that, I’ve never been that into playing game shows as a way to review for kids. However, Mushroom and BalletBoy have been watching Jeopardy! and The Price is Right with the Husband sometimes and got into such a mania about game shows that we spent a couple of days recreating game shows. Most successfully, we played Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? I had forgotten what an involved show it was. If you want to watch again, you’ll find videos on Youtube without any trouble. For our re-creation, we played seven rounds, including the Chase round on a big blank map and the Memory-like round where you look for the loot, warrant and criminal.
At the end, the kids picked anywhere in the city they wanted to go for their prize then set toy figures down on a giant map.
BalletBoy was the winner. He wrote down “Fro-ZEN-yo and water sprinkler” on his board as the place in the city he wanted to go. So after his victory, we did just that. It’s just up the street.
Even though Mushroom didn’t win, I couldn’t resist also taking him to his chosen place in the city, which was Georgetown Waterfront Park. He wanted to do the labyrinth walk and play in the sprinkler.
Do it, Rockapella!
